Number of units ever built: 56 (1974-1988)
V63001.jpg (92730 bytes)
The first V63 (factory identification: VM15) locomotive: V63 001 in its original
white color. This locomotive now has been retired. We don't know her location now.
The V63 001 and 002 were manufactured in 1974 by GANZ-MÁVAG.
This first one had Siemens electronics and her maximum speed was 120km/h.

This loco is from the "null serie" (V63 003-007). She is the first one in numbering order
and still running. She has the "old style" current collector and gearing.
The gearing of the "null serie" is different from the others. Their gearing is
the same as the one used for the M63 serie diesel engines. The maximal speed of these
locos is 133km/h except the V63 106, which is originally geared for a maximal
speed of 160km/h.

One of our favourite locos: V63 013. This loco has a coat of arms
on her side wall.
Only 6 Gigants have such symbols of Hungarian cities:
V63 013 - Dombóvár
V63 017 - Celldömölk
V63 023 - Püspökladány
V63 034 - Budapest-Ferencváros
V63 035 - Cegléd
V63 036 - Szerencs
In the background a Sili (V43) and an another Gigant (V63 047) can be seen.

The ex-V63 051 arriving at Budapest Keleti railway station with Arrabona express (1994).
(Budapest Keleti-Wien Westbahnhof, Train No. 343.) Now this engine has been regeared
for 160 km/h and her number has changed to V63 151. On the left V43 1041 can be seen.

One of the first regeared Gigants: V63 154 at Budapest-Keleti railway station
with Orient express (1993). (Budapest Keleti-Paris Est, Train No. 262.)
She has a name as some ships. The first regeared
Gigant serie has named after persons who had great influence in growing of
the Hungarian railways:
V63 138 - Kandó Kálmán (original V63 038)
V63 143 - Baross Gábor (original V63 043)
V63 154 - Dr. Verebély László (original V63 054)
V63 155 - Gróf Mikó Imre (original V63 055)
V63 156 - Gróf Széchenyi István (original V63 056, last Gigant)
The other regeared machines have no name: V63 144,150,151,153.
The V63 106 originally has had a "high speed" gearing, so it was only "renumbered" from
V63 006.
(We have lost the original color picture, so this is an old scanned one.)

Inside the cab of an old V43 ... Check the similarity to the newer V63.
It's not surprising because both of them were manufactured by GANZ.

Yes you are right... This is not an electric engine, but it was so nice. ;-)
